The Royal Hua Hin Golf Course is currently playing host to the 14th edition of the Singha Thailand Junior World Golf Championship, which kicked off on Wednesday and will run until Saturday, October 29, 2023. The tournament has attracted a total of 139 young golfers from 17 different countries, including the United States, South Korea, China, and various ASEAN nations.
The opening ceremony, held on October 25, featured a lively “long drum” parade and a warm welcome reception for the athletes, setting a festive tone for the competition. Dr. Ratchanat Mongkolnavin from the Thailand Golf Association presided over the ceremony at Tee-Off Hole 10, expressing his delight at Thailand’s continued role as host and organizer of this prestigious event.
“The Royal Hua Hin Golf Course is a significant location in Thailand’s golfing history, being the first 18-hole course in the country. It is an honor for us to once again welcome young golfers from around the world to compete here,” said Dr. Ratchanat.
Meanwhile, senior management from the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, notably Col Chaowalit Phopthatsanpong, the General Manager, and Dr. Pramote Petchsart Marketing Director, extended a warm welcome to the young golfers.
The tournament is structured across four age categories for both boys and girls: Class A (ages 15-17), Class B (ages 13-14), Class C (ages 11-12), and Class D (ages 9-10). The older two categories will compete over four days and 72 holes, while the younger two will play for three days across 54 holes.
The Thai contingent is represented by four young golfers in the men’s category and two in the women’s. Notable participants include Ono-Warut Boonrod, the 15-year-old runner-up from the previous week’s Singha Thailand Amateur Open, and Prae-Khwanaphach Suanin, a 15-year-old from Phitsanulok and the recent women’s team gold medalist at the National Games.
The competition is slated to start each day at 07:00 AM with a two-tee start from both hole 1 and 10, concluding the morning round at 08:50 AM. The afternoon rounds will commence at 11:30 AM and end at 12:40 PM. Spectators are welcome to attend the event in person, while golf enthusiasts from around the world can keep up with the action and check live scores via the Thailand Golf Association’s official website.
Organized by the Thailand Golf Association and supported by Singha Corporation Co., Ltd., the Singha Thailand Junior World Golf Championship stands as a testament to Thailand’s commitment to nurturing young golfing talent, providing them with a platform to hone their skills and gain invaluable competitive experience on the international stage.
