Thailand’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has reiterated its plans to reopen night life entertainment on January 16.

On Thursday, a proposal was put forward that aimed to allow bars, pubs and nightclubs in designated tourism zones, which includes Hua Hin, to reopen one month earlier than planned.

Operators had hoped they would be able to reopen for the Christmas and New Year Year holidays.

However, on Friday CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesilp Wisanuyothin entertainment venues continue to pose a high risk for spreading the virus.

He said that a lack of ventilation in venues and people lowering their guard, such as taking off face masks and being in close contact, could lead to further transmission of the spread.

He cited two big clusters that previously emanated from entertainment venues.

Instead, Dr. Taweesilp urged venues to begin preparing for reopening by ensuring all staff are vaccinated and that they have registered for SHA or equivalent safety certifications.
