A military base is perhaps not the first place that comes to mind when thinking about tourist destinations in and around Hua Hin. But at the Fort Thanarat army camp, near Hua Hin, there’s loads to see and do, and it’s open to the public.

Located in Pranburi along Phetkasem Road, the expansive Thanarat Military Camp covers a vast territory spanning over 730,000 rai.

It’s not just a functioning military facility, but also a hotspot for a range of tourist activities. The Infantry Center, a key division of the camp and a direct subordinate of the department of Army training command, now commanded by Major General Awut Phuttha-Amnuay, offers an array of activities for tourists.

For those interested in exploring nature and getting some exercise, an excellent bicycle route commences at the camp’s entrance and runs parallel to the Pranburi River, making for a scenic 30-kilometer round trip.

Golfers can enjoy a full 18-hole course and a driving range, with very affordable rates to play; green fees are 800 THB for the general public, 600 THB for guests of members, and 200 THB for members, while the driving range is available at 20 THB.

Swimmers are not left out, with a standard 50-meter pool available. For its efforts in promoting tourism, the Infantry Center received the “Thailand Tourism Awards 2002.”

The fort is readily accessible to the public; anyone can simply drive into the military camp to explore and take a leisurely walk or cycle around the premises.

However, for those wishing to fully utilize all the amenities and attractions, prior contact with the tourism office is essential.

Whether it’s the shooting range, zip line, abseiling wall, or camping facilities, arrangements can be made by reaching out to the staff via Line a couple of days before your visit. The staff will then facilitate your visit, providing guidance and information on the facility.
