In a significant move towards normalizing trade relations, Major General Nathapong Praekaew of the Thai Border Military, along with other high-ranking officials, initiated talks on January 11, 2024, to reopen a key trade relaxation point at the Thai-Myanmar border. This initiative aims to revive the bustling border trade economy to its pre-COVID-19 state.

Previously the border checkpoint was open for Thai and Myanmar nationals to cross, while Singkhon was also a bustling trading zone.

While a small market has reopened on the Thai side of the border, the COVID-19 and the ongoing conflict in Myanmar has meant the border checkpoint has not been operational to the extent it had been in previous years.

Accompanied by Lieutenant General Banlue Aiamsri and Lieutenant General Paradit Klin-Srisuk, Major General Nathapong inspected the Singkhon checkpoint, a critical juncture for Thai-Myanmar trade.

The delegation’s visit included meetings with Myanmar military leaders and local officials to discuss the reopening of the trade relaxation point, signaling a mutual desire to reinvigorate the cross-border economy.

The Thai delegation, including Colonel Chalermphon Sangtong and other military and civilian authorities, was welcomed by a broad spectrum of officials. They assessed the operations of agencies in the area and visited the goods transfer point, currently positioned in a neutral zone for imports from Myanmar.

Preliminary discussions revealed a shared enthusiasm between Thai and Myanmar officials to restore the trade and economic activities that characterized the border area before the pandemic. Myanmar’s readiness to allow its citizens to engage in cross-border trade and access medical services in Thailand was matched by similar provisions for Thai citizens.

The talks also touched upon the 2016 agreement governing cross-border travel through the Singkhon Pass, which allows residents of specified border areas to travel between the two countries for short periods. This arrangement, emphasizing the ease of cross-border movement, is critical for the local economies and cultural exchange.

Thai and Myanmar citizens residing permanently in the specified border areas in the agreement could enter and exit and stay for a period of not more than 4 days (3 nights) using a Temporary Border Pass.

The governors and district chiefs of the border areas specified in the agreement have the authority to issue these passes. For passports, they are only used for entering and exiting at permanent border points and allow travel throughout the country for a duration as specified by that country.

To further these discussions, a comprehensive meeting is scheduled for January 15 at the Thai-Myanmar Public-Private Coordination Center.

This meeting, likely to involve various stakeholders, is expected to pave the way for the reopening of the Singkhon border checkpoint, fostering a renewed era of cooperation and economic growth for both nations.

In an effort towards improving local infrastructure, Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul, the Mayor of Hua Hin, led a site survey on Soi 102, ahead of plans for an extensive road expansion project in the area.

Joined by key officials, including Ms. Nonglak Phadungthos, Mr. Cheep Suksee from the municipal council, Mr. Rawiroj Thaemmi of the Prachuap Khiri Khan provincial council, and Mr. Kalyuth Kuyyukam, the Director of the Engineering Office, the mayor assessed the current conditions and logistics required for the expansion.

The ambitious project aims to overhaul more than 2 kilometers of road, stretching from the Mechanical Center to Sethavidhya School(Sethawit). It involves laying asphalt, installing rectangular pipes, and implementing water trap gutters, a move designed to alleviate the longstanding flooding issues plaguing the area.

During the survey, the team discussed the proposed route for the project. However, it was noted that there are still instances of public area encroachment. In response, Mayor Wutthikul has directed officials to engage with the public to resolve these issues promptly.

The road surface expansion is scheduled to begin at the end of the fiscal year 2024.

In a bid to enhance the shopping experience at Chat Chai Market, Hua Hin’s municipal officials have announced plans to update the market’s layout and parking facilities.

This initiative, led by Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul, aims to modernize the market, making it more accessible and attractive to locals, entrepreneurs, and tourists.

A meeting held on January 11, 2024, at the Hua Hin Municipality Office, chaired by Mayor Wutthikul discussed plans around reorganizing parking for different market users, including entrepreneurs, the general public, and tourists, especially around the Dechanuchit Road area from Phra Pokklao Road to Petchkasem Road, and near the entrance of Soi Hua Hin 72.

Additionally, the restructuring of food stall layouts within the market was another topic raised.

Mayor Wutthikul stressed the need for involving local merchants and commercial building owners in the planning process.

The Engineering Office, in cooperation with the Public Health and Environment Department, has been tasked with redesigning the fresh food product stalls. Their goal is to create a market space that is not only visually appealing but also adheres to health and safety standards.

The redesign aims to elevate Chat Chai Market to a new standard of excellence, with a focus on robust infrastructure and adherence to health principles. This initiative is expected to stimulate the local economy by attracting more customers and enhancing the overall shopping experience.

In related developments, officials also announced the creation of a new zone dedicated to food and souvenirs. This new addition, referred to as Zone 1, is expected to further enrich the market’s offerings, providing visitors with a broader range of local specialties and memorabilia.

The Municipality’s Strategic Committee of Hua Hin City convened for its inaugural meeting of the year on Friday (Jan 12), led by Mayor Nopporn Wutikul.

Also in attendance was Deputy Mayor Ms. Busaba Choksuchart, City Clerk Mr. Jeerawat Phramanee, and several government department heads, focused on a variety of issues and developmental strategies for the city.

A key topic was the proposed transformation of Chat Chai Market Zone 1 into a hub for food and souvenirs, aimed at enhancing the tourist experience in Hua Hin. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to bolster its appeal as a premier destination for visitors.

The meeting also addressed the increase of Zika virus infections within the Hua Hin Municipal area. The Public Health Department highlighted the serious risk posed to pregnant women, with the potential for birth defects such as microcephaly and other disabilities. In response, the department is intensifying public awareness campaigns and stressing the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding grounds to curb the spread of the virus, also responsible for dengue fever and chikungunya.

Another significant point of discussion was the alarming increase in PM 2.5 air pollution levels, attributed to unchecked waste and leaf burning within the municipal area.

Rigorous field inspections are being ramped up to tackle this issue, as the municipality aims to improve air quality and public health in Hua Hin.

On the infrastructure front, Mr. Narongrit Prompradit, Director of the Samut Songkhram Highway District, Department of Highways, presented strategies for road development and improvement in Hua Hin.

He cited successful projects like the erosion prevention on Highway No. 4 and safety enhancements at the Nong Moo Junction in Kui Buri District.

The meeting also touched upon the impending water supply challenges expected in 2024, linked to the El Niño phenomenon. Plans are underway to manage the anticipated reduction in raw water availability during the hot weather season.

In a move to bolster emergency response capabilities, a proposal was put forward to establish an additional fire station in Hua Hin near 19 Rai, complementing the existing stations.

Tourists at Kaeng Krachan National Park were treated to a rare sighting of a black leopard on Wednesday.

The magnificent creature appeared near the Ban Trang campsite on the route up to Khao Phanon Thung, a moment captured in photographs by the fortunate visitors.

Mr. Mongkol Thai Phakdi, the head of Kaeng Krachan National Park, confirmed the sighting, which occurred on January 10.

Image: Noona Nareerat

He informed that the photographs were taken by a group from a local resort in the Kaeng Krachan district, as they journeyed towards Khao Phanon Thung, at approximately kilometer 27 marker.

This area is approximately a one and half hour drive from downtown Hua Hin.

The tourists, initially concerned about the leopard’s health due to its slow, lethargic movements, promptly reported the encounter to park officials. However, upon review of the photos and videos, the leopard was deemed to be in robust health.

Experts believe that the cold weather may have drawn the animal out to bask in the sun, suggesting that it has a feeding area nearby and might be accustomed to human presence.

Mr. Mongkol further highlighted the significance of this sighting. Studies conducted in the research area around Khao Phanon Thung, spanning from 2013 to 2023, have used camera traps for wildlife monitoring and population surveys.

These studies indicate that the area, including Ban Krang-Phanern Thung, is home to approximately 10 leopards and black leopards. Encounters with these elusive animals are rare and considered a special event for visitors to the park.

Image: Noona Nareerat

He reassured that leopards and black leopards pose little danger to humans, typically choosing to retreat when encountering people. However, he advised visitors who might encounter these animals to remain in their vehicles, refrain from honking horns or making loud noises, and wait for the animals to move away, ensuring safety for both humans and wildlife.

This sighting underscores the rich biodiversity of Kaeng Krachan National Park and the importance of preserving such habitats for the continued existence of these creatures.

You might have seen this posted on Facebook – but (spoiler alert) you absolutely can’t get a legal driver’s license in Thailand by messaging someone on the LINE app and having them take the test for you.

The Royal Thai Police are cautioning the public about an ongoing scam involving the fraudulent issuance of driver’s licenses, which has been advertised on social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok.

Posts for the scam are frequently made on Facebook both in Thai and English.

Throughout December, Hua Hin Today observed a spike in these posts being made across many Facebook groups for Hua Hin and the surrounding area.

According to the police, these scammers claim they can provide driver’s licenses without the standard test required by the Department of Land Transport (DLT). However, it’s important to note that the DLT does not operate an online system for driver’s license issuance, nor does it provide licenses without a mandatory test.

The scam typically involves posts on Facebook, where the fraudsters advertise the driver;s license alongside fake reviews from supposedly satisfied customers who claim to have received their licenses through this service.

An example of the driving license scam post. Posts similar to this have been posted with increasing frequency to Hua Hin based Facebook groups.

Victims who show interest are instructed to contact the scammers through the LINE messaging app, where they are asked to provide personal information including names, addresses, photographs, and both sides of their ID cards. Additionally, the scammers demand upfront payment.

After the initial payment is made, victims are led into a series of further financial demands under the pretense of additional fees for documents, processing, and transportation. Ultimately, victims end up neither receiving the promised driver’s license nor getting their money back.

The DLT has also reported that these scammers falsely claim the ability to carry out transactions with the DLT through Facebook and TikTok, using misleading profiles that incorporate the Transport Department’s logo.

They falsely advertise the issuance or renewal of driver’s licenses without visiting a transport office, charging between 1,000 to 6,000 baht for these fraudulent services.

Authorities strongly advise against engaging with the posts or pages. Apart from the financial loss, there is also the risk of personal documents being used for illegal activities and the potential receipt of a counterfeit driver’s license, which is a serious offense. According to the Penal Code, the use of fake official documents can lead to imprisonment for 6 months to 5 years, a fine of 10,000 to 100,000 baht, or both.

The public is urged to report any suspicious Facebook pages or social media accounts promoting such services.

Reports can be made directly through Facebook or by contacting the Cyber Police at 1441, available 24 hours for tips and information.

Night markets are ubiquitous to Thailand, and like many other places, Hua Hin is home to an abundance of them.

Each market in Hua Hin offers a blend of shopping, dining, and cultural experiences, making them must-visit destinations for anyone in the area.

Whether you’re a visitor exploring Hua Hin for the first time or a local resident who hasn’t visited these markets in a while, this guide will provide you with all the information you need to visit and enjoy the different night markets in Hua Hin.

Cicada Market

No visit to Hua Hin is complete without visiting Cicada Market.

Located in Khao Takiab, Cicada Market is a vibrant night market open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and holiday evenings from 5pm. It’s an ideal spot for weekend shopping and relaxation. The market primarily features local handicrafts, offering a diverse selection of fashionable summer clothing, beachwear, jewelry, souvenirs, and paintings. Many of the exhibiting painters, well-known in the area, often work at the “Hua Hin Artists Village”.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to invest in art for home decoration. The clothing here is trendy, well-designed, and inspired by summer vibes. The market is far from boring, with puppet shows for children and stage performances. You can enjoy a cocktail while listening to live bands playing jazz, a variety of music, or hit songs. Remember to buy coupons at a specific counter to savor a refined traditional dinner along with your drink.

Tamarind Market

Adjacent to Cicada Market, Tamarind Market operates on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 5 to 11 pm, and also during long weekends. This expansive food court offers a plethora of dishes, from Thai cuisine to pizza, hot dogs, pastries, and Chinese food. The market is a flawless culinary journey, blending Western and Eastern flavors.

Reminiscent of Singapore’s “Newton Circus” or similar hawker centers, you can order from any stall, create your menu, and choose any table. However, arrive early as it gets crowded, especially near the stage where bands perform pop music. Our tip: start at Tamarind Market for food, then head to Cicada for shopping and live music, and to grab more food!

Saphan Pla Night Market

Close to Soi 53 (Hua Hin) and located on Hua Hin Fishing Pier, Saphan Pla Walking Market is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 5 to 10 pm. Offering a unique view of the beach and coastline, it’s a prime spot for local seafood.

“Pla” or “Plaa” in Thai means “fish”, and the market features food stalls along the pier with views of traditional fishermen and boats. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. It’s a lovely spot to sit and relax in the evening.

Rimlay Market

Situated on Queen’s Park Road, Queen’s Park 19 Rai, Rimlay Market offers a comprehensive culinary and shopping experience. The market welcomes a variety of vendors, from food stalls to artists, painters, and craftsmen.

The park has recently been renovated with improved walkways and offering a delightful post-dinner beachside walk. The playground makes it family-friendly.

Baan Khun Por

In Soi 88 (Hua Hin), Baan Khun Por is a food court open daily from 5 pm until midnight, attracting both Thais and foreigners. Its name, meaning “Father’s House”, suggests a welcoming atmosphere for family, friends, or relatives.

The market features live music bands and an extensive selection of food stalls. There’s so much food to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice. During holidays and live weekends major artists and bands will perform at Baan Khun Por drawing large crowds.

Hua Hin Night Market

Located downtown at the corner of Petchkasem Road and Sa Song Road, Chat Chai Night Market operates daily from 4:30 pm to midnight, getting busier after 6:30 pm. Stalls are set up along the road, flanked by rows of shophouses.

The market offers a balance of local food and goods, including handicrafts, beachwear and clothing. Go here for your elephant pants and ‘Ray Bans’. The market also features unique food items like fresh coconut pancakes and authentic French style pancakes, a rare find in Hua Hin.

Pae Mai Market

Only open on Tuesday evenings from 3 pm, Pae Mai Market is a vibrant and colorful market. It offers an exciting culinary experience with a wide range of foods, from sushi to pizza and Thai local dishes. Pae Mai Market is a popular spot among Hua Hin residents, adding an authentic local touch.

It has 8 alleys dedicated to food stalls and 2 for consumer goods like toys and summer clothing. Although it has many tables, it doesn’t operate as a typical hawker center, as you’ll need to bring your food to the table yourself. Local music occasionally adds to the bustling atmosphere.

Hua Hin’s night markets are more than shopping destinations; they are vibrant spots where visitors can immerse themselves in the local lifestyle. Each market has its unique charm, offering an array of food, art, music, and crafts. Whether you’re a tourist or an expat resident, exploring these markets is a must-do experience in Hua Hin.

In an act of courage and quick thinking, an unnamed Grab rider became an unexpected hero after performing CPR on an unconscious foreigner involved in a traffic accident in Hua Hin.

The incident occurred on January 9 at 10:12 AM close to the irrigation canal on Soi 70. The Sawang Hua Hin Dhammasthan Rescue Unit reported that a foreign male, riding a motorcycle, collided with a pickup truck and was found unconscious with no pulse.

The Sawang Hua Hin Dhammasthan Rescue Unit, via their Facebook page, highlighted the swift response of the Grab rider. Upon encountering the accident scene, the rider, whose name remains unknown, immediately administered CPR to the victim, in a bid to keep him alive until the arrival of the ambulance and rescue team.

The Rescue Unit’s post expressed deep gratitude towards the Grab rider: “We commend the Grab rider for his prompt action at the accident scene. His willingness to assist and perform CPR on the injured person, who was unconscious and pulseless, undoubtedly played a crucial role in the rescue operation. His actions are truly admirable.”

The post included the hashtags in Thai “#RiderGrabHero” and “#anyonecanbeahero”.

[Update 9am, Jan 10] Hua Hin Today understands that despite the efforts of the Grab driver and first responders, the motorcyclist later died.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a critical first aid technique used in emergencies where an individual has stopped breathing or whose heart has ceased beating. This procedure involves chest compressions and rescue breathing to restore blood circulation and oxygen to the body, thereby preventing permanent tissue damage due to oxygen deprivation.

The incident has brought to light the importance of basic life-saving skills in emergency situations. In cases like this, where an individual is unconscious and not breathing, proper positioning and technique in administering chest compressions are essential until professional medical help arrives.

Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Police have started a comprehensive firearms training program on Tuesday, aimed at enhancing the tactical skills of its officers.

The three-day event, which began today at the Special Operations Shooting Range in Ao Noi, Muang Prachuap, was inaugurated by Kittipong Sukphakulkun, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, on behalf of Niti Wivatwanit, the Governor.

Also attending was Pol. Maj. Gen. Jamlon Ngamnetr, Provincial Police Commander, along with deputy commanders and heads of various government departments, the opening ceremony marked the beginning of a training phase for 960 officers.

Kittipong Sukphakulkun, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan centre

The program is designed to address the urgent need for proficiency in firearms handling among police officers actively engaged in crime prevention, suppression, investigation, and traffic control.

Despite being armed, many officers have had limited opportunities to develop their shooting skills and familiarity with various types of firearms. This gap in training has often led to unsafe scenarios, not just for the officers but also for the public they are sworn to protect.

Instances of resistance and obstruction during arrests, which have occasionally resulted in injuries or fatalities to officers, underline the necessity of this training.

The training program, spanning from January 9 to 11, 2024, aims to rectify this by providing comprehensive, hands-on experience in tactical firearms handling. This initiative is a part of the Provincial Police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its officers and the citizens they serve.

The founder and team of volunteers behind Hua Hin’s popular crab bank project have been honored with the prestigious 2023 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories award.

This accolade, presented in a ceremony on January 8th, highlights the remarkable contributions of members of the local community in Khao Takiab in promoting environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.

The award ceremony, held in Khao Takiab, saw Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul, the Mayor of Hua Hin, and Mr. Archawan Kongkanatn, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Prachuap Khiri Khan office, jointly present the emblem and certificate.

The recipients included Mr. Sakchai Thongheng (Uncle Chook), a former local fisherman of Khao Takiab, alongside a network of dedicated volunteers and the small fishing boat communities of the sub district. The event was attended by several public figures, including Ms. Pailin Kongphan, Deputy Mayor Atichat Chaisri, municipal council members, and honored guests.

Mr. Phuttachai Singthong, chairman of the advisory board of the local fishing group of Ban Khao Takiab, discussed the group’s operations, emphasizing their commitment to environmental stewardship. Ms. Kanokwan Sriarun, Director of Strategy and Budget at Hua Hin Municipality, served as the event’s presenter. Further marking this occasion, Ms. Wasana Srikanchana, President of the Hua Hin-Cha-am Tourism Business Association, presented a gift to Mr. Sakchai, symbolizing a transition from the old to the new year.

The Green Destinations 2023 conference, held from October 9th to 10th in Tallinn, Estonia, was organized by the Green Destinations Foundation in the Netherlands, in collaboration with ITB Berlin.

The conference recognized the Crab Bank Project in Khao Takiab, Nong Kae Subdistrict, of Hua Hin, as a selected sustainable tourist destination.

Hua Hin’s inclusion comes following a competitive selection process involving 170 destinations worldwide, all evaluated based on criteria endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

This recognition is not just an honor but also serves as a catalyst for promoting the site to a global network of tourism operators and disseminating information to travelers. The aim is to attract more high-quality tourists to Hua Hin, boosting both local economies and conservation efforts.

The crab bank initiative is organised entirely by volunteers and focuses on the conservation of the blue swimming crab population.

You can keep up with activities of the crab bank via the Facebook group: ธนาคารปูม้าเขาตะเกียบ Blue Swimming Crabs Bank Hua Hin

The initiative essentially ensures that any gravied female crabs caught by the local fishing fleet, being released back into the sea.

Subsequent to the spawning process, both the adult crabs and the resultant zoea and young crabs are carefully released back into the sea.

An internal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among fishermen ensures that any berried female crabs caught are sent to the crab bank, and local hotels and restaurants also contribute to the initiative by donating berried female crabs.

Image: Patrick Jacobs

Following a short hiatus, every morning from 9am on the beach next to the turning for Amazon Cafe in Khao Takiab, the crabs are now once again released back into the sea.

Anyone can go and take part in the releasing of the crabs, alongside the guidance of some of the volunteers involved in the project.

The activity has since become a tourist attraction in its own right.

In response to a rising number of Zika virus cases, officials in Hua Hin and Pranburi are intensifying their prevention efforts.

A meeting held on January 8, 2024 aimed to discuss way to implement effective measures against the spread of the virus, throughout Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Chaired by Dr. Wara Selawanakul, the meeting was attended by key municipal and health officials, including Mr. Jeerawat Prahomani, the Permanent Secretary of Hua Hin Municipality, Lieutenant Jalek Nounin, Deputy Permanent Secretary, and Mrs. Wariya Yuyen, Head of Disease Prevention and Control.

The Zika virus, known for being carried by the same mosquitoes that spread dengue fever and Chikungunya, poses a significant risk to pregnant women. Infection during pregnancy can lead to microcephaly, a serious birth defect affecting a baby’s brain development. From January 1, 2023, to January 2, 2024, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province reported 30 Zika cases, including three involving pregnant women. Hua Hin District accounted for 29 of these cases, with one additional case in Pranburi District.

Officials at the meeting reviewed past and ongoing measures to combat the virus. The Hua Hin Municipality has been proactive in disseminating information through various channels, including social media, mobile public relations units, and awareness campaigns, particularly targeting pregnant women. Efforts have also included community engagement and fogging operations to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in residential areas.

The Health Region 5 Office has provided mosquito repellent lotions and sprays for distribution in affected areas. Future plans include extensive fogging operations in the Smorprong and Khao Phitthak communities on January 12 and 19, 2024, starting early in the morning. Residents will be kept informed about these measures.

San Paulo Hospital Hua Hin has achieved a significant milestone in healthcare by receiving the first “AACI” international medical standard certification in Upper Southern Thailand. The achievement was commemorated in a ceremony held at the hospital’s meeting room on January 8, 2024.

Dr. Somphorn Kampong, a board member of the American Accreditation Commission International (AACI) and President of AACI Asia Pacific, honored the event by presenting two AACI standard certificates to Dr. Ekalaph Thongborisut, the Chairman and Director of San Paulo Hospital Hua Hin. The certifications include the AACI International Healthcare Accreditation and the Endoscopy Clinical Excellence Certification.

The AACI, a globally recognized quality assurance system from the United States, is notable for its ability to certify both International Healthcare Standards and ISO & EN concurrently. These standards, respected in Europe and the Middle East, emphasize patient-centered care, safety, welfare, quality of life, and overall care quality. They aim to ensure precise medical treatments, standard medical equipment, and the expertise of medical personnel, alongside other related services like pre- and post-treatment advice and medication dispensing.

Dr. Kampong highlighted that AACI’s goal is to develop health service standards that prioritize patient welfare and treatment efficiency, making San Paulo Hospital Hua Hin a forerunner in providing accredited healthcare services in the region. The hospital’s achievement in being the first in Upper Southern Thailand to receive the AACI International Healthcare Accreditation and the first in the Asia Pacific to receive the Endoscopy Clinical Excellence Certification is a testament to its commitment to healthcare excellence.

Dr. Ekalaph Thongborisut stated that San Paulo Hospital Hua Hin has been in operation for 26 years and has always been committed to continuous development, leading to the AACI accreditation.

“The hospital has developed standards of service that focus on patient-centered care, safety, quality of life, and global care quality”, Dr. Ekalaph said.

“We are prepared in terms of personnel, equipment, and tools, maintaining standards that ensure the safety of our service users. At the same time, we consider our potential and readiness. We are a secondary level hospital, providing care to patients at a certain level.

“However, in cases where emergency patients exceed our capability, we consider the need not to delay their treatment and refer them to higher-capacity hospitals, such as Hua Hin Hospital, which specializes in treating stroke and heart diseases due to ischemia, and is a center for accidents and emergencies. We are a hospital that prepares patients for further treatment.”

“Therefore, the AACI accreditation of San Paulo Hospital Hua Hin contributes to the confidence tourists have in the medical services of Hua Hin district and also helps to create a positive image for tourism in Hua Hin and Thailand.”

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Prachuap Khiri Khan Office has released data indicating a significant upsurge in tourism activity and economic gains during the New Year 2024 celebrations.

According to the report, the province witnessed a hotel occupancy rate soaring between 90 to 100%, which peaked on the night of December 31, 2023.

Mr. Achawan Kongkanant, the Director of TAT Prachuap Khiri Khan Office, shared on January 5, 2024, that the tourism inflow during the festive period resulted in an estimated revenue of 340 million Baht.

The data signifies a robust period for the local hospitality sector but also marks a clear upward trajectory in the regional tourism economy.

The data further revealed that the average expenditure per tourist stood at 2,716 Baht per day, underscoring a healthy spending pattern among visitors.

Despite the boost in tourism, challenges remain. The TAT acknowledges the need for better planning for extended holidays and a more balanced distribution of tourist traffic across various districts in the province, as opposed to being centred in Hua Hin and Pranburi.

To address this, they are launching a campaign titled “365 Days of Prachuap Khiri Khan – Travel Every Day,” aimed at promoting weekday tourism and mitigating the concentration of visitors in specific areas.

Tourists at Hua Hin Beach during New Year

Furthermore, the TAT is taking steps to safeguard the province’s reputation as a prime tourism destination. This comes in the wake of reports of tourists falling victim to scams involving accommodation bookings.

The TAT is coordinating with relevant agencies to combat these fraudulent activities and to ensure a secure and reliable experience for future visitors.

This influx of tourism and the subsequent economic growth highlight Prachuap Khiri Khan’s appeal as a sought-after destination.

With ongoing efforts to enhance visitor experience and ensure safety, the province is expected to continue its upward trend in attracting both domestic and international tourists.
