I received a call, one rainy afternoon, from a very close friend, a brother, I was not expecting to hear from him at all. A few weeks earlier, we had a major fall out, one that tested the chore of our friendship. I committed an ‘indiscretion’ and the consequences were pretty severe, perhaps too harsh.

I asked myself what could he possibly want? I was baffled and saddened by the news. His wife, my sister at heart, had been diagnosed with breast cancer and needed surgery, not just to remove the lump but in medical terms, a mastectomy. In other words, this meant the beginning of the most important battle of their life. I felt completely powerless and dreadful by the news – if only there was a magic pill, a remedy and all would be gone.

There are a lot of sicknesses out there that doesn’t seem to affect our lives until it hits us close enough, another reminder that none of us is immune or invincible, we are simple humans and sometimes lucky enough to enjoy a life without being sick. I was shocked to read that one woman out of eight in the US, Australia and Canada are fiercely battling breast cancer, and this number reaches twelve million on a worldwide scale. That piece of info is jaw dropping.

It makes you think, how many women are fighting, silently to live? By researching breast cancer on google I discovered an infinite number of stories from survivors and victims, their families, their friends, it’s heartbreaking. Call me an honorary feminist, but I admire the strength and determination of women, especially when they are fighting, and fight they will, with determination, courage and a smile.

A few days later, I visited both of them at their home, I couldn’t help myself but to admire her for showing such strength, boldness and positivity while battling breast cancer and raising an eight-year-old child, this made me realize how strong women are and deserve our utmost respect, encouragement and support. Breast cancer leaves some gruesome scares, both physically and mentally, some temporary and some forever.

I cannot even fathom what is going on in her mind, what is she thinking about and where does she find the energy? As any chemotherapy would do, she was losing her beautiful hair and decided to shave all off, ‘bold’ decision I thought. It turned out that it suited her very well and we even joked about it, she could have been a model for an aunt Jemima advertisement, wearing a Doek around her head.

Where does she finds the tenacity, this ferocious hunger to keep going, that energy that makes her such a warrior and yet remain humble, down to earth and funny, the most caring person in the world. She still finds the time to be a dedicated wife and mother to her loving husband and child and time to cook-up a meal for visiting friends, how do you do that? What’s your secret?

As I was speaking with her hubby, I could not stop wondering what was going through his mind, how did he feel, nothing was transpiring but I knew deep down, he was crushed. Throughout the dinner, he was composed, at no time did he show any signs of despair… I gathered that he was not in a position to show any emotions, he had to remain strong, keep high hopes to avoid distressing both his wife and his daughter. How could they remain so positive in the face of death? Was it faith?

And then it hit me, the family spirit is the roots that keeps them united, strong and enduring… She is not alone, they’re here with her and for her, pushing her forth and whispering in her ear, when needed: the battle is not over, stand-up and fight, you will prevail. We’ve witnessed all the countries around the world working together to find a treatment against COVID, we’ve seen and read, day after day, for the past 18-months, the ravages COVID has done and how many families were torn apart as a result of this global pandemic.

We’ve heard less about breast cancer… if only all these countries would unite with the same devotion, determination and efforts to eradicate breast cancer, so that all the “M” in the world would never have to experience it and all their families never suffer from it. In memoriam of all the women who have lost their battle to breast cancer, may you rest in peace and may your families find strength and comfort surrounded by their loved ones. Courage to those who are fiercely and silently battling it these days, may you prevail and live happily ever after. Keep faith M, your courage and determination are an inspiration to many of us.

The high cost of PCR tests is and will continue to negatively impact international travel recovery, when tourism is most needed, especially in Thailand. On top of uncertainty over waves linked to the delta variant and now the emergence of the omicron variant, there’s the matter of the coronavirus tests needed to travel.

Per person, they can cost hundreds of dollars and exorbitantly increase the cost of an international trip, depending on the place of departure, the destination, the type of test and the company providing them. While many countries offer free or subsidized coronavirus testing, when it comes to tests to meet travel requirements and swift delivery test results, governments often rely on or require private companies to administer them, rather than strained and slow public health systems.

The cost of doing business in a volatile industry, coupled with limited government oversight of prices and services, is probably yielding some startling revenues, in USD trillions, as many private companies are taking advantage of a COVID windfall, making huge profits on testing, resulting in the less wealthy forced to forgo vacations abroad as travel seems to become something only the rich can afford.

Maybe, on some level, some may argue that charging for COVID testing for travel is not unreasonable, but for a family of five, they will have to pay the absurd price between one and two thousand dollars to take two tests during a trip, which adds a significant cost to their holidays, especially when COVID-19 has tightened budget constraints for many around the world.

On one hand governments are crying for tourism to return but on the other hand putting costly restrictions in place and allowing private companies to apply outrageous prices. So, rather than simply being a matter of choice, it becomes an additional financial burden and the excessive COVID travel costs symbolize escalating inequalities in the wake of the pandemic.

It never ceases to amaze me, how much the medical sector is blatantly profiteering of this pandemic, leaving us, the consumers, with no choice but to swallow this sour medication. It is clear that protecting the public is and will always be a government’s top priority, and the robust border and testing regime implemented will help to minimize the risk of new variants entering the country, but at what cost?

Shouldn’t the price of PCR testing be regulated by these same governments in the name of fairness? Whilst new rules are being introduced in many countries around the world, allowing lighter testing requirements to give a boost to a struggling travel and hospitality industry and other industries linked to tourism, Thailand seems to be left in the back seat wondering how to move forward.

According to several online media, the variability of pricing is wide enough that the International Air Transport Association, in July, asked governments to act on price-gouging for Covid-19 tests, citing a proprietary survey in which 70% of respondents called the cost of testing “a significant barrier to travel.” But of course, it is!

There is no need to be a rocket scientist to figure this one out! … Until testing costs and availability are brought in line and at an affordable level, it looks like 2022 may prove to be yet again, another difficult year for the travel and tourism industry in Thailand. And, for families who have had to forgo vacations this year due to unachievable additional costs, the costs are a stark example of the new societal inequalities created by the policy response to the pandemic. It is a sad reality and a wake-up call! HAPPY NEW YEAR.

With the idea of assessing the quality of ice and drinking water, Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Public Health Office organized an activity to collect samples across the province.

They collected samples of both ice and water from all manufacturers that volunteered to be part of the project, and sent those samples away to be assessed for microbial quality at The Medical Science Centre 5 in Samut Songkhran.

The results of the survey revealed that 94 of the providers tested passed the required standard for human consumption. The public health department of Hua Hin Municipality therefore would like to publicise the results to consumers to enable them to feel more confident about where they can purchase clean water.

Consumers can check and download the findings of the Provincial Public Health Office at! https://bit.ly/3tCQA0R

Let us pause from Covid-19 for a moment to discuss a topic that would surely get attention from many ladies. Do you want to know what to drink and eat to get beautiful glowing skin?

If your answer is yes, then let’s go! – Water: Drinking water is the best nourishment for your skin because it helps moisturize and keep your skin hydrated. Also, it helps stimulate body cells’ functions in absorbing food, getting rid of wastes in your body, and improving blood circulation.

Coenzyme Q10, (CoQ10), plays a vital role in being an antioxidant.
L-Cysteine helps enhance the strength of your body.

It helps to stimulate the building blocks of powerful antioxidants, glutathione, and other enzymes. So, the body has higher resistance toward bacteria and viruses, making the symptoms of various infectious diseases disappear more quickly.

Amla extract is high in vitamin C. It acts as an antioxidant that helps slow down the degeneration of skin cells and inhibits melanin formation. It also helps increase the functionality of L-Cysteine that maintains the body’s glutathione level.
Selenium helps protect the skin from free radicals, which cause skin dehydration, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and sunburn, including skin cancers.
Zinc helps repair skin damage while keeping it moist and hydrated. It is a component in the sebaceous glands’ function that produces oil directly for the skin. Therefore, a lack of zinc may cause oily skin.
Follinol is primarily found in green tea. It could inhibit skin inflammation or injury, treat acne, and help slow down the deterioration of DNA.
Phytoestrogens are substances that are primarily found in unprocessed food. It helps to balance hormones in the body and slow down premature skin ageing.
Vitamin A keeps your skin hydrated, protects it from sunlight, and even helps to lighten wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.
Vitamin E is a nutrient that performs as an antioxidant in the body and helps protect the skin from any harm from sunlight. It also makes your skin look and feel healthy from the inside.
Vitamin C helps preserve Collagen and Elastin that is vital for skin tightening. It also protects your skin from sunlight while helping boost your body’s immune system. We could get all the nutrients mentioned above from eating food appropriately.

It is essential to eat nutritious food or all food from the five food groups, exercise constantly, and drink enough water. However, the most important thing is to get enough sleep.

No amount of nourishment and maintenance put into your body would be worth anything if you don’t give the cells time to repair and regenerate themselves. It would be like a machine that works all the time, never gets fixed when broken.

Thus, it would break down eventually. We hope you take good care of your health along with your skin.

The Ministry of Public Health has accelerated its campaign to vaccinate pregnant women against Covid-19 with a specific campaign to target them.

The target is to vaccinate 100,000 such women during the period September 13th – October 13th. Pregnant women are considered to be a high risk grouping, therefore they should be vaccinated with the most comprehensive protection against the virus in order to avoid serious illness and reduce deaths.

In the past, pregnant women had a mortality rate of 2% among the number of women infected with Covid-19. There are currently around 500,000 pregnant women with over three months gestational age in Thailand, of those only 68,435 have been vaccinated.

With this in mind the Ministry of Public Health has called on women whose pregnancy is beyond the 12 week point to contact the nearest health care facility to receive their Covid-19 vaccination without prior registration as soon as possible.

Many people are now facing the long-term consequences of Covid-19, suffering from lingering and debilitating symptoms, often for months after their recovery. ‘Long Covid’ covers a wide range of symptoms that vary widely from person to person, fatigue is commonly seen and shortness of breath, muscle weakness, digestive issues, heart symptoms, chest pain, joint or muscle pain, headaches, and brain fog. Apart from the physical symptoms, many suffer from mental, emotional, and psychological effects, for instance, anxiety, depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Acupuncture that is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine is well placed to help people with Long Covid, and treatment is tailored to the individual and aims to support the body to bring itself back to health. Patients with multiple chronic symptoms are treated using a holistic approach, helping to support their self-healing capabilities to provide better sustained, overall improvement, rather than focusing on one symptom at a time.

This approach will include the effects on the immune system and inflammatory processes. Acupuncture calms the nervous system, helping quieten the stress hormones of flight and fright and turning on the parasympathetic nervous system, it is particularly useful for Long Covid as acupuncture treats both physical and emotional issues simultaneously.

There is evidence of acupuncture’s benefits for various symptoms that may be seen with Long Covid, it has been shown to improve fatigue and quality of life for chronic fatigue sufferers, it has also been proven to help with headaches, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and pain.

Acupuncture also works very well alongside conventional medicine, as with any chronic condition, supporting the system with good quality rest, healthy nutritious eating, and gentle exercise is also important. Long COVID can be extremely distressing for anyone affected, however, Traditional Chinese Medicine can be helpful for those who are suffering from these conditions.

Acupuncture is one science in Chinese medicine that has been practised for more than 4000 years, according to the theory and treatment principles of traditional Chinese medicine, needles are applied at the acupuncture body points which are located on the meridians, in order to adjust the balance of the body, blood flow and chi, to return the normal flow. Acupuncture is most often used to attempt pain relief, though acupuncturists say that it can also be used for a wide range of other conditions.

Acupuncture is generally used only in combination with other forms of treatment. Acupuncture is generally safe when done by appropriately trained practitioners using clean needle technique and single-use needles. One client suffered with a very painful stiff shoulder presumed to be caused by sitting for 9 hours a day at the office computer. After advice from some colleagues they decided to visit Terra acupuncture in Soi 51 for a 45 minute one-to-one session with the qualified acupuncturist there, as the pain was great and there was nothing to lose.

Although skeptical, it was clear that after the first visit the pain had begun to ease and it had clearly improved the condition, however a slight pain began to return a few days later and so a course of treatment was booked and some Chinese herbal powder was purchased for treating high blood pressure as well. At Terra Clinic, there are two young female doctors who provide treatment, one of them is Dr. Napich Boonyakiat, who we usually call Dr. Kate, she graduated with a Ph.D.

Traditional Chinese Medicine in California in the United States of America, and she is a doctor specialising in pain management, orthopaedic and sport medicine. Dr. Kate has experience of working in the US for 6 years, and now a further 2 years in Thailand. The second is Dr Wilawan Chanlek she graduated from the Faculty of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Huachiew Chalermprakiet University which is associated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, she has experience in working at Samut Sakhon Hospital and San Paolo Hospital Hua Hin.

Both doctors are very friendly and provide a courteous service as well as offering advice on how to take care of yourself after the treatment as well. Acupuncture can be particularly beneficial but not everyone will find acupuncture effective for treating physical pain. It should be stressed that not all types of acupuncture treatment are the same, there are many different types of acupuncture, and all may have differing levels of effectiveness. Acupuncture has helped millions of people with back pain, while many others have felt no benefit at all.

Histological or physiological evidence for traditional Chinese concepts such as chi, meridians, and acupuncture points are a clear set of pathways in the body along which vital energy is said to flow. There are twelve such pathways associated with specific organs. “The slow movements and postures of t’ai chi open up and align the meridians of the body”

Why Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic approach to healing through acupuncture, Chinese herbs, food therapy, cupping, auricular acupuncture, tui na, gua sha and medical exercises.

Depending on your unique needs, we may add the following services as a part of your treatment plan. Terra Acupuncture’s mission is to help people to receive optimal health & well-being, and will focus on body mind balance and herbal medicine as well as acupuncture Let’s get you back to living your healthiest life!

Now that the Government has allowed regular people to buy the Covid-19 Rapid Antigen Test, (the test kit), and use it themselves, we want to share a few simplified cautions in taking the test.

1) Due to its limitation, the test kit has lower sensitivity and specificity than the PCR test. 2) Conducting the Nasopharyngeal Swab by yourself – Don’t forget that the Nasopharyngeal Swab is a vital part of the test and this is not easy in practice, if you do it incorrectly or not deep enough, there is less chance to find the virus. In reality, people usually pull out the stick when they feel hurt.

So, people typically don’t put a stick up their nose deep enough. If the swab is not done appropriately, then the specimen quality may not be good enough to attain a correct result. Additionally, if you do the swap incorrectly, there are risks of damaging the meninges, causing the spinal fluid to leak, (CSF leaks), in the sinus.

3) The test kit must pass the standard and be certified by the Thai Food and Drug Administration, (FDA). If you get the test kit from other sources its efficiency cannot be guaranteed. Once you buy the test kit, you need to read its instructions and guideline thoroughly, understand it, and have everything ready before you start the test. Also one of the most concerning points is the disposal of the test kit once used because it is considered infectious waste.

Would you dispose it in a separate bag and tag it as infectious wastes? Where would you dispose of it? Who will take care of it after that?

This is of great concern for the administrators, as the trashmen just grab and throw the trash into their trucks, so we need to think about this thoroughly, otherwise, it may cause more infection. Taking the Covid-19 Rapid Antigen Test by yourself is definitely not easy. You need to have the skill and courage to do the nose swab, be able to focus and finish the test while being extremely cautious on how to dispose of such infectious waste.

By launching its pride clinic to deliver life-time value healthcare for the lgbtq+ community

Bumrungrad is teaming up with its endocrinologists and specialists to launch its new “Pride Clinic” to deliver high quality medical care over the long-term to members of the gender-nonconforming individuals, facilitating their access to customized care based on their individual needs. The medical services on offer range from gender affirming procedures to gender confirmation surgery with Bumrungrad’s highest standards of safety.

Pharmacist Artirat Charukitpipat, CEO of Bumrungrad International Hospital, states “Throughout Bumrungrad’s 40-year history, Bumrungrad has demonstrated respect for diversity including cultural, ethnic, gender, and sexual orientation because we have experience treating a diverse group of patients from all over the world.

The launch of the Pride Clinic is another one of Bumrungrad’s milestones in providing holistic, integrated medical care to members of the gender-nonconforming individuals of all ages, while meeting the highest standards of safety, to bring to life our belief that everyone can be the best version of themselves.

At Bumrungrad, we prioritize the privacy of all our patients, irrespective of their ages, especially regarding their medical histories, privacy in treatment areas, and maintaining their anonymity. Bumrungrad stands with the LGBTQ+ community and celebrates Pride Month in June 2021 as part of our efforts to respect all types of diversity. Associate Professor Dr. Taveesin Tanprayoon, Chief Medical Officer of Bumrungrad International Hospital, states “A growing number of younger people are confident, express themselves, and have respect for others without bias on gender or taste.

Moreover, in the experience of our teams of doctors and medical professionals who have met diverse groups of customers, there is growing demand from all age-groups within the gender-nonconforming individuals and their families for medical care. Our psychologists can lend support and guidance.

We provide hormone treatments, and surgical procedures, like gender confirming & affirming procedures and gender-confirmation surgery, under the care and guidance of our teams of surgeons and specialists who work with each patient to craft the most effective and safest postoperative treatment plan possible.

The opening of Pride Clinic today is the latest offering at Bumrungrad and it aims to cover every dimension of patient care for all communities, while maintaining international standards of safety. Dr. Sira Korpaisarn, Endocrinologist and Hormone Specialist at Bumrungrad International Hospital, states “Having appropriate knowledge and understanding regarding health issues is important among the gender-nonconforming individuals.

A significant number of women who, having transitioned from being assigned male at birth, self-medicate by using birth-control pills as a substitute for hormone replacement therapy, which can endanger their good health. Pride Clinic delivers holistic, integrated medical care to the gender-nonconforming individuals, which meets the highest standards of safety. Pride Clinic’s medical services on offer range from hormone therapies to help one’s physical characteristics match one’s identity, masculinizing / feminizing procedures, gender affirming surgery, feminine voice training and vocal cord surgery, aesthetic and skin procedures, mental health programs, and check-up programs for gender-diverse and gendernon-conforming individuals of all age groups.

The procedures are over seen by our team of doctors and medical specialists.” Our surgeons who deliver high quality gender confirming surgery outcomes have more than 20 years of experience and have performed at least 1,000 surgeries, having received their degrees in either cosmetic or plastic surgery. Our doctors are either certified plastic surgeons or Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons.

Thailand has few doctors who specialize in or have extensive professional knowledge of hormone therapies. Doctors who specialize in this area must have experience to understand the healthcare needs of the gendernonconforming individuals to be able to act as a resource for and deliver customized medical care to community members. The Pride Clinic provides safe and effective treatments for every need.

Dr. Rataporn Ungpakorn, dermatologist and aesthetic doctor at VitalLife Scientific Wellness Center at Bang Krachao, adds, “Bumrungrad Hospital can provide additional post-operative care to in-patients and has teams waiting to care for your needs at the VitalLife Wellness Center at Bang Krachao in Samutprakan Province, which integrates wellness and medicine holistically and is the first such center in Asia.

Its key feature is the integration of advanced medical technology and holistic wellness, which focuses on preventative treatments and individually crafted exclusive treatments. The United Nations General Assembly calls for solutions to solve global drowning problems, and Thailand, as one of 193 member states, has responded to the 5 resolution agreeing that a consensus on the matter for the first time in history is needed, in Thailand, relevant parties have taken all required measures seriously and continuously for more than 15 years, as a result of which the drowning deaths of Thai children have decreased by 64,6%.

On April 28th 2021, The United Nations General Assembly issued the resolution because drowning is still a major problem around the world, this is the first time the issue has been discussed at the UN General Assembly. Measures to prevent death by drowning are required in all countries because drowning has caused over 2.5 million deaths worldwide over the past decade and more than 90% of all drowning deaths occur in low and middle-income countries. Drowning is a preventable cause of death through low-cost actions and the international community should come together to promote knowledge and training in swimming skills.

Drowning rescue courses teaching the basic skills through core courses should be established and provided in all countries as should swimming lessons. The information of the United Nations found that countries in Africa have the highest ‘per head’ drowning rate in the world, while Asia has the highest total number of drowning deaths. The UN sees drowning as an issue of social inequality shown by the fact that children and youth in rural areas are most affected by this inequality. And in many countries, drowning is the leading cause of death for children and young people, drowning is also among the top 10 causes of death for children aged 5-14 worldwide.

In Thailand the Department of Disease Control Ministry of Health recognised the seriousness of this issue and took action in 2006 when an average of 1,500 children under 15 years of age were drowning every year, drowning was then the No1 mortality cause among Thai children.

By joining forces with relevant network partners to implement various measures, such as education, training, and public health services including a survival swim course, this position has been drastically improved. The first Saturday of March has been designated as a day to prevent children from drowning and to organise campaign activities every year. In addition, a strategy for building a MERIT MAKER team has been formulated using the community as a base with new innovation development to prevent drowning, integration of drowning prevention in the Ministry of Public Health’s 20-year National Strategic Plan as well as supporting international cooperation, etc.

The measures taken in Thailand are in line with the resolutions of the United Nations and from the information of the Strategic and Planning Division Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health. In 2020 531 Thai children drowned, which was 64.6 percent less than before the operation began. For more information, please contact the Department of Disease Control hotline at 1422.

Have you heard of ‘cupping therapy’? You may have seen pictures of famous athletes or celebrities with red circular marks from cupping on their shoulders and backs. A lot of people have questions about the benefits of cupping and wonder what this mark is. What is Cupping Therapy? There are two types of cupping, Dry and Wet.

In dry cupping the suction cup will be placed on the skin and in wet cupping, the practitioner will make a small incision on the skin and then apply the suction cup to draw CUPPING THERAPY’ – PART I Dr. Kate Boonyakiat DAOM, LAc. – Terra Acupuncture out small amounts of blood. Sometimes we move cups along the muscles, a process called gliding cupping, cups are typically left on for between 5-10 minutes, depending on your specific need.

How does it work? When toxins or cell waste stagnate in the muscles, the body has difficulty disposing of the debris causing the body to experience discomfort, the stagnation can be caused by various reasons such as poor circulation in a localised area, or an injury that never fully healed. When the liver and kidneys cannot process these toxins and excrete them correctly, the toxins are put in storage to be handled later, usually housed in the muscular level.

The vacuum action of cupping facilitates the release of rigid soft tissues, stimulates the peripheral nervous system, loosens and lifts connective tissue, and breaks up and drains stagnation, it can also increase blood and lymph flow to the skin, muscle, and connective tissue. Cupping draws stagnant blood and other fluids that have fallen out of healthy circulation up to the skin and away from the injury to restore circulation to the affected area. It creates space for oxygen, living cells, and nutrients needed for the healing process. How does it work?

Many people know that cupping can ease muscle pain or tightness and cause relaxation to the body, cupping therapy is also used to treat a broad range of conditions, including respiratory infection, headaches and cellulite.

Who doesn’t know Rose? Is there anybody, really?

Roses are considered the ‘Queen of flowers’. Nonetheless, only a few people know that roses are remarkable not only for their prettiness and pleasing scent but also, if not moreover, for their ‘medicinal properties’.

Roses have been used in various ways throughout time in almost every part of the world, in particular the Middle East, India and China, for decoration, supporting health and well-being, even for cooking, the rose is truly multi-functional. Nowadays, roses are used to make ‘rose tea’ which started in China.

The rose tea holds medicinal properties as follows:

• It helps with gastrointestinal problems because it stimulates the production of bile that makes food digestion better.
• It helps ease fatigue, insomnia, mood swings, and irritability because the smell of rose tea helps reduce stresses and fatigue while making you feel relaxed.
• It helps with menstrual pain or menopause symptoms, and in addition, rose tea has the same properties as aspirin and ibuprofen that is anti-inflammatory, including those vitamins that reduce cramps, swelling, stomach pain, and mood swings during these periods. Nutrition facts per 1 cup of rose tea
• Zero calories, protein, fat, carbohydrate, fibre, sugar, or caffeine
• But… it has vitamin C, E, A, iron, and calcium
• Additionally, it has Phytonutrients. It is one of the most biologically active compounds that is found only in plants. It has biological activity that may oppose or prevent certain diseases, such as cancer. Hence, it is considered a vital antioxidant.
• It helps with skin, making your skin stronger.
• It helps lower the risk of cancer.
• It helps stimulate the immune system that prevents you from an infection
• It helps lower stress, making your immune system better, resulting in better health and less sickness. In addition, rose tea has another antioxidant called Polyphenols that helps protect cells from being destroyed and lower the risk of some chronic diseases, such as heart diseases, diabetes and obesity.
• However, please note that rose tea isn’t friendly to everyone. It could cause allergies to some people. Cautions for drinking rose tea

1. People who take anti-depressant medicines should avoid rose tea as it will lower the effects of the medication, making it inefficient.

2. Everyone should drink rose tea in an appropriate amount.

If you drink too much, you will receive too much vitamin C, causing diarrhea, stomach burn, headache, and nausea. Receiving too much vitamin C could cause kidney stones and excessive iron absorption as well. Thus, we must never forget that everything needs have its balance

Alcohol is commonly used by people to help them celebrate at a party or to drown their sorrows when they are feeling down. Alcohol has direct negative effects on the central nervous system, which is the system that controls our mind, motions and emotions, and influencing the way we act, it also has depressant effects and in excess can cause the imbiber to back out and collapse Drinking levels- Let’s see normal bodily reactions when it receives a certain amount of alcohol.

• 30 milligrams – Feeling more relaxed and cheerful than usual, and reduced inhibitions
• 50 milligrams – Difficulties seeing, impaired movement and reflexes
• 100 milligrams – Nausea and vomiting, slurred speech, impaired balance, coordination, vision, reflexes, and judgment
• 200 milligrams -Memory loss, feeling sad, and unstable emotions
• 300 milligrams – Impaired vision, dizziness, possible loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, and rapid/abnormal heart rate
• 400 milligram – Complete loss of consciousness, blackout, and possible coma or death How every sip of alcohol affects our body?
Heart: Irregular heartbeat, heart palpitations, and risks for the heart to stop beating. Consuming alcohol continuously for many years may cause cardiomyopathy
• Brain: Brain cells damage, weaken remembrance/dementia, decreased functionality of the overall nervous system, and risk of other brain-related conditions such as stroke
• Liver: Steatosis or fatty liver. Some people may experience severe liver inflammations that cause cirrhosis
• Stomach: Stomach pain, stomach irritation, vomiting blood if the inflammation is severe. People who drink large amounts of alcohol for a long time are at three times higher risks to have cancer than a person who doesn’t drink.
• Kidneys: Overwork, which could lead to kidney failure
• Bladder: Cystitis that may lead to cancer However, maybe unexpectedly alcohol does have its pros. An appropriate amount of alcohol intake could make you feel lively and relaxed while lower the risk of heart and vascular diseases.

It could:

• Help prevent heart diseases by stimulating the circulatory system, which positively affects the functionality of blood vessels and heart
• Lower risk of having diabetes type 2: Insulin resistance makes the body unable to use blood sugar as its energy, resulting in high blood sugar. A study has been conducted and shown that menopausal women who drink white wine have a better response to insulin, which may reduce the risk of insulin resistance and diabetes.
Helps relax and reduce stress Nonetheless, the benefits of alcohol will vary greatly across different genetics, or other daily routines of each person. If you are a drinker, it is important to have a health check-up regularly, especially the liver that is the most at risk.

By Dr. Kate Boonyakiat DAOM, LAc – Terra Acupuncture

It is a reasonable and frequently asked question by patients in my daily practice but it’s not easy to answer. About 10% of people are what we call ‘Acupuncture Strong Responders’. It means that they will notice benefit from just a few sessions, then there are about 10% of people we consider ‘Acupuncture Non-Responders’, these people will not benefit at all from acupuncture, no matter how many treatments they receive, the remaining 80% of people fall somewhere in between these two groups.

If you respond well to the therapy, you should notice some positive changes within 3-4 sessions, this does not mean that your symptoms are gone within this period, only that your symptoms are less severe, you are sleeping more restfully, or you are having more good days than you did before.

It is an encouraging result suggesting that you will continue care, and you will experience more and more relief. Young people in good health with problems like for example a minor ankle sprain, often require 2-3 treatments, older individuals and those with chronic health problems usually take a longer period of treatment.

It can divide into three phases:

Corrective care: Treatments are scheduled regularly, 2-3 times per week in severe cases. The goal is to relieve symptoms.
Convalescent care: The treatments are scheduled every two weeks.

The goal is to keep symptoms under control while addressing underlying disharmonies and preventing future problems. Maintenance care: The treatments are scheduled once a month. During this phase, the goal is to maintain our progress and promote overall well-being. The length of time on each phase determined by several factors, including:

1. Acute or chronic problem?
2. How long have you had the symptoms?
3. Can you avoid the conditions that caused problems?
4. Your age?
5. Your general state of health?
6. Can you follow the diet and lifestyle recommendation?

Working with local businesses on compliance measures for what will become the ‘New normal’ for the region.

SHA Plus requires operators and service providers, such as hotels and restaurants to pass the standard appraisal and evaluations are being conducted continuously. To date 28 venues have passed certification and this number will grow quickly as tourist attractions, retail stores, entertainment venues and other establishments come forward for accreditation.

It’s hoped the scheme will give confidence to potential tourists to the province in the wake of the latest Covid-19 outbreak and re-establish Prachuap Khiri Khan as the holiday destination of choice.

WHO SUFFERS FROM MIGRAINE?

Women are more likely to suffer migraines than men, due to the fact that oestrogen is a common factor in their cause, especially when levels are fluctuating during the menstrual period, specifically when oestrogen becomes low migraines are more likely to occur. Besides oestrogen, other factors include stress, lifestyle and diet, migraines can also be hereditary, as many migraine sufferers report having family members who also suffer from these headaches.

It is essential to learn what is likely to trigger your attacks, do your best to avoid them altogether, but where that is not possible make preparations for the forthcoming pain. Foods such as chocolate, cheese and monosodium glutamate are common causes, and emotions such as stress, worry and depression are also migraine triggers, so recall what occurred prior to your attack and take the necessary action to prevent it happening again.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

It’s usually a throbbing, intense, and debilitating pain and features nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and is exacerbated with head movement. Migraines mainly affect one side of the head, but some people experience pain on both sides. The episodes typically last anywhere from a few hours to several days, and they are recurring with warning signs beforehand. The frequency of migraine attacks occur differently from person to person, from once in a lifetime to almost daily.

How can acupuncture help?

Chinese medicine distinguishes between two primary causes of migraines: External and Internal. An external origin occurs when Wind-Heat, Wind-Cold or Wind-Damp invade the acupuncture channels located in the head. These are common syndromes occurring when environmental pathogens penetrate the body, and impede the movement of blood and Qi to the head.

Internal causes include genetics, improper diet, emotional problems or chronic conditions caused by internal organ dysfunction. We identify where the migraine has developed using a detailed diagnosis plan, its cause, (internal or external), and then select the suitable Chinese herbs and acupuncture points to treat the migraine at its root.

It is surely one of life’s most known facts that water is both vital and beneficial for our bodies, but with so many options available in the bottled water sector we decided to look into ‘Mineral Water’, what is it? What’s in it? What are its benefits? What should be avoided?

Basically mineral water is groundwater that comes from a natural source that has the presence of various minerals, predominantly Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, Potassium, Fluoride and Sulphur.

Mineral water benefits:

• Helps maintain the body’s natural acid-base balance due to the co-function between Potassium & Sodium
Normalises the functionality of the cardiovascular system and blood pressure level to prevent arrhythmia.
• The Calcium, Magnesium and Fluoride levels can be a contributory factor in strengthening bones and teeth.
• Helps moisturise the skin as it contains high silica levels slowing down development of wrinkles. (Either by drinking or spraying directly onto the skin).

Although the benefits are almost totally felt across the board each individual mineral requirement can vary, each body functions differently and each person has different routines and health practices. Thus each person should determine their specific needs and monitor any adverse reaction to heavy consumption. There are alternative means to get essential minerals into the body such as eating mineral rich foods, e.g. fruit and vegetables, cooking by steaming can maintain higher levels of minerals. Although it is safe and generally beneficial to our health, those suffering certain health conditions should practice extreme care, these include:

• People with Edema, Kidney Disease & Abnormal Heart Function should be cautious about drinking any mineral water.
• Patients with High Blood Pressure should avoid mineral water with high levels of Sodium & Sodium Chloride.
• People with high acid secretion and peptic ulcers should avoid drinking mineral water containing Sodium Chloride
• Patients with respiratory diseases, especially bronchospasm, should avoid sulphur mineral water
• Patients with gastrointestinal problems and ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract should avoid sulphate mineral water.

Tarting with an introduction, the oestrogen hormone is mainly produced from the ovaries, with small amounts from fat tissues, and it helps to turn a girl into a woman. For example in menstrual cycles, where it helps the uterus to grow while enhancing and maintaining the mucous membrane so that women can have a baby.

Oestrogen has roles in other bodily systems as well, including the bones, blood vessels, heart, and the brain. Its primary function is to help develop and maintain both the reproductive system and female characteristics, such as breasts, endometrium, menstrual cycles, and height during the puberty period. Additionally, oestrogen has other functions including:

• Acceleratinng metabolism
• Reduce bone resorption, increase bone formation
• Increase plasma fibrinogen and the activity of coagulation factors, especially factors II, VII, IX, X and plasminogen
• Increase platelet adhesiveness and decrease antithrombin III, which is a protein that inactivates thrombin
• Increase HDL-Cholesterol, triglyceride, and decrease LDL-Cholesterol, fat deposition
• Produce sodium that helps with water retention and promotes lung functions

As you can see, Ohas many benefits, but as oestrogen is so important for balancing, enhancing, and developing bodily functions, what happen if we have low oestrogen levels? It controls women’s reproductive system, as well as the development of female characteristics while having effects on emotions, hence, having low or high oestrogen will impact our health.

The symptoms could be insomnia, feeing anxious, being forgetful, menstrual problems, fatigue, gain weight quickly and hard to lose weight, including osteoporotic. These symptoms are caused by having either high or low oestrogen, but we can balance it back to the normal level by making changes in our behaviours and diets.

For example, lower the amount of alcohol intake, opt for fruits and vegetables grown from the natural process, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly. However, if your oestrogen is very low, you should consult with a doctor for appropriate treatment, which could be varied depending on the doctor’s discretion for example, oestrogen replacement therapy. We would need to know the exact oestrogen levels in your body before undertaking oestrogen replacement therapy, this information we can gain by doing a blood test.

Therefore, if you have any of the above symptoms, please consult a medical professional to check your oestrogen hormone level. Just in case you don’t know this, both men and women possess the oestrogen hormone, in men it supports the maturation of sperm and stimulates sex drive.
